Thank you for the supply and delivery of two radiator covers a few weeks ago. The time you took to make sure the measurements were correct etc means that the finished pieces look wonderful in our rooms. The fit is perfect, especially on the one that took a long phone call to check that all was correct!”

| 10/09/2006 - Part assembled radiator covers-assembly instructions |
How to assemble your radiator Cover
Thank you for purchasing your radiator cover from Amber Radiator Covers.Follow these simple steps to assemble your radiator cover.
Step 1 - Check your pack contains the following
A-Front panel including grille B-Left side panelC-Right side panelD-Radiator cover top shelf
30mm mdf screws x 8 – 16mm screws x 16 – 40mm right angle brackets x 2 – 25mm angle braces x 2– 12mm screws x 4 – 2 pairs flush mount wall fixings – 25mm wall screws x 4 – Wall plugs (drill size 6) x 4 – For metal grilles 12mm screws – Brass screw cups
Before commencing assembly check your radiator cover will fit over the radiator and in the space available around the radiator.
Step 2
Line up the back edge of the front panel (A) with the pencil line on the inside of side panel (B), so that the side panel projects 10mm forward of the front panel (make sure the side panel has the decorative edge facing to the front). Screw panel (B) to (A) using the 30mm screws through the predrilled holes, making sure not to over tighten the screws.
Repeat for panel (C).
Step 3
Attach the 2 right angle brackets (one on either side) approximately half way down panels (B) and (C), using the 16mm screws, so that they attach to panel (A).
Line up the back edge of the top shelf (D) with the back edge of the radiator cover and fix in place with the 2 angle braces and 16mm screws, positioning approximately half way across the depth of the underside of the top shelf.
Larger radiator covers
To give extra stability, use additional angle braces to attach the front panel (A) to the top shelf (D) in between the vents on the inside of the radiator cover.
Radiator Covers with aluminium metal grilles
The aluminium grille is screwed temporarily to front panel (A) to protect during transit. Undo the screws and remove protective film if attached. After painting/finishing the cover, screw the grille back onto the cabinet using the 12mm screws and screw cups. Note: Please handle with care, as edges may be sharp.
Step 4
Your radiator cover is now ready for you to paint or stain in your chosen finish.
Step 5
The radiator cover can be left freestanding, but for extra stability and especially with larger radiator covers we recommend fixing it to the wall. The wall fixing that is provided allows the radiator cover to be easily removed from the wall for decorating, cleaning or access to the radiator valves.
Make sure there are no concealed pipes or electrical cables in the wall before you start drilling.
Screw the flush mount fixing through the two upper holes to the back of the top shelf at each end using the 12mm screws, rounded end pointing down.
Place your radiator cover over the radiator and against the wall. Mark with a pencil where the top edge of the flush mount meets the wall at each end.
Using 2 wall plugs and 2 x 25mm screws drill and plug the wall using the two upper holes of the other fixing as a guide and then screw the fixing to the wall, rounded end pointing up. Repeat at the other end. Lift the radiator cover and slide the fixings on the cabinet into the fixings attached to the wall.
Amber Guide to Painting and Finishing your Radiator Cover
Preparation
As with all woodwork and painting, we recommend that you wear a facemask and work in a well-ventilated area.
Very little preparation is required. Fill any small gaps or slight imperfections with wood filler or fine surface Polyfilla. Sand any rough edges with fine grade sandpaper. Wipe up surface dust with a soft damp cloth.
· If painting, use at least 2 coats of primer. White acrylic (water based) primer or emulsion paint can be used for sealing the surface of the MDF. Specialist MDF primer is also available from most home improvement stores. Always lightly sand surfaces with fine sandpaper between coats
· Try using a small roller for large flat areas.
· Apply 2 coats of your chosen top colour. Always apply the first coat thinly and sand with fine sandpaper between coats. Water based emulsion, eggshell and gloss paint are all suitable.
· Grille panels can be painted with a lightly loaded roller, but don’t press too hard on the grille. Alternatively use a brush with light rapid strokes and a dabbing action around the holes, or try a can of spray paint being careful to avoid excessive build up of paint.
· Various paint effects can be applied to the finished paint surface – decoupage, stencilling, crackle glaze, even an aged effect can be achieved by highlighting edges with gold gilt cream.
· A wood effect can be achieved by applying several coats of coloured varnish directly onto untreated mdf.
· If unsure about your desired finish, try out some test patches first on the inside of your cabinet.
